Turkey is maritime silk road economic belt and the 21st century an important node along the silk road, Kumport terminal is located in the northwest coast of the sea of marmara Ambarli port area, close to the European part of Istanbul, occupy the important strategy of Eurasia joint location, distance from the black sea route of the bosporus only 35 kilometers, is the throat region between the black sea and the Mediterranean Sea, is the third largest container port in Turkey.

The wharf has an existing coastline of 2,174 meters, 6 berths, and a maximum depth of -16.5 meters at the cutting edge. It is capable of receiving and unloading the largest container liner. At present, its container handling capacity is 1.84 million twenty-foot equivalent units (teus), and it can be further expanded to 3.5 million teus. (currently, the first phase of the expansion has been extended by 55 meters, and the second phase will be completed in July 2018. Phase ii berth extension of 111 meters is also planned. After the expansion, the berth length of the wharf will reach 2,340 meters, and the capacity will be further released.

Kumport currently opened 19 connection in the far east, Europe, North America's main port of ocean main and connecting the black sea region, the Mediterranean JinYang feeder, increasingly perfect route service network and improving terminal management operation level, for the Turkish region and neighboring countries import and export customers to provide more economical, convenient and efficient logistics transportation services. In 2017, Kumport handled a total of 1.063 million twenty-foot equivalent units of containers, up 60 percent year-on-year.

KUMPORT project background:

China merchants ports co., LTD., cic overseas direct investment co., LTD., and cosco Pacific LTD., a subsidiary of cosco group, together with a Luxembourg company (SPV) jointly established through their respective holding companies, acquired a stake of about 65% in Kumport container terminal on September 16, 2015. In the three-way consortium, China merchants international, cosco Pacific and cic overseas hold 40%, 40% and 20% respectively.
