CMPort Jointly Builds 5G Intelligence Innovation Laboratory

China Merchants Port Group Company Limited (“CMPort” 001872.SZ) jointed hands with China Mobile Limited Shenzhen Branch and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., to establish the first 5G intelligent innovation laboratory in the port industry at Haixing Wharf, with the support of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government. On 24 June 2019, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager of CMPort Mr. Zhang Yi hosted the grand opening ceremony of the CMPort 5G intelligent innovation laboratory in the CMPort Tower. Delegates from the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, Bureau of Industry and Information Technology of Shenzhen, China Merchants Group and other guests attended the ceremony.

Many guests witnessed the opening ceremony of the laboratory, including Wang Daping, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Shenzhen Provincial Committee, Zheng Xuan, Deputy Inspector of Bureau of Industry and Information Technology of Shenzhen, Deng Renjie, Executive Vice President of China Merchants Group, Wu Yi, Deputy Director of Digital Center of China Merchants Group, Zhang Yi, General Manager of China Mobile Limited Shenzhen Branch, Chen Bin, Vice President of Enterprise Business China Region and General Manager of Enterprise Business Guangdong of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.. After the ceremony, Zheng Xuan and Wu Yi gave on-site interviews to journalists from Xinhua News Agency, China National Radio, Ta Kung Pao and Wen Wei Po from Hong Kong, and Shekou TV Station.

Eleven participating units have signed the declaration of construction of the laboratory. Moving forward, CMPort will inject innovative investment funds, with the opportunities derived from the renovation of Haixing container terminal, to create a 5G technology innovation platform to explore the application of 5G technology in the port industry with partners. The laboratory aims to provide demonstrations to the port industry, and help Shenzhen to build an international technology innovation center amongst the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

After the opening ceremony of the 5G Innovation Laboratory in Merchants Port, the guests went to the exhibition hall to observe the video scene demonstration of the port remote field operation monitoring, UAV performance and the first pure 5G call in China under the 5G communication environment. These demonstrations show that the application of 5G technology in China Merchants Port is on the way of actual landing. It has a broad application prospect in the future.
