CMPort Awarded “The Golden Bauhinia - Best Listed Company for Practicing Belt and Road Initiative”

On 5 December 2018, China Merchants Port Holdings Company Limited (“CMPort”) was awarded “The Golden Bauhinia - The Best Listed Company for Practicing Belt and Road Initiative” (金紫荆「一带一路」最佳实践上市公司奖) on the 8th Hong Kong International Finance Week and China Securities Golden Bauhinia Awards Ceremony organised by Ta Kung Pao in the celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative. Mr. Yan Gang, the Deputy General Manager of CMPort, accepted the award representing CMPort.

Mr. Jiang Zaizhong, member of the CPPCC National Committee and the Chairman of Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, Ms. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the Chief Executive of HKSAR, as well as Directors, CEOs and company representatives from nearly 100 listed companies in Mainland China and Hong Kong attended the event.

Mr. Yan Gang said, “As a participator and promoter of Belt and Road Initiative, CMPort has operated and invested in ports that covered the important hub ports along the ‘Belt and Road’ countries. In 2018, CMPort completed the acquisition of TCP Participações S.A. (TCP) in Brazil and Port of Newcastle in Australia, achieving a full coverage of the six continents. As of October this year, CMPort’s container throughput has reached 91.11 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 6.3%, of which overseas projects recorded fast growth by 12.6%. Under the principle of ‘Consultation, Contribution and Shared Benefits’ advocated by the Belt and Road Initiative, CMPort’s overseas investments have achieved good economic returns, and created large number of job opportunities at the same time, facilitating the improvement and development of local livelihoods, which have been recognised and welcomed by the host countries.”

The China Securities Golden Bauhinia Awards Ceremony this year was jointly held by Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group and institutions from both Mainland China and Hong Kong, including Listed Companies Association of Beijing, Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association, Chinese Securities Association of Hong Kong, Chinese Financial Association of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Securities Professionals Association and Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries. About 800 guests from nearly 100 listed companies in Mainland China and Hong Kong attended the ceremony this year. CMPort was awarded the “Listed Companies with the Most Overseas Influences”, the “Listed Companies with the Best Investment Value” and the “Listed Company with the Most Investment Potential” in 2012, 2013 and 2017 respectively.
