CMPort Sets Sights on Intelligence-driven Future via Summer Camp for Left-behind Children

SHENZHEN - 70 years on from the birth of the People’s Republic of China, the spirit of hard work and positive change that revolutionized the nation’s economy lit up its Southern Gateway  once again as a new generation discovered “Teenage Dreams” of their own as well as their collective mission to secure an intelligence-driven, sustainable future.

58 “Left-behind” kids, whose parents migrated from rural communities to Shenzhen in search of employment at China Merchants Port Holdings Company Limited (“CMPort”), were invited by the state-owned port service provider to join their families over the weekend at their “second home” for an unforgettable bonding experience.

Named after CMPort's arresting public service slogan, "Shaping the Blue Dream", the C Blue Summer Camp for Left Behind Children was originally designed to help the company honor migrant employees and fulfill corporate social responsibility (CSR). The 5th and latest edition of the social program, however, transcended its customary themes by celebrating the latest technological breakthroughs in the port industry and deepening the company's involvement in environmental protection.

More than 50 participant families, whose members came from 12 of CMPort’s domestic subsidiaries, relished a fun-filled, heartwarming adventure as they digested oceanic exhibitions, observed intelligence-driven container terminals, witnessed the young city's extraordinary evolution, and savored the beauty of local scenic spots. In addition, the parents joined their children at a screening of the Lion King, Disney’s 2019 photo-realistic adaptation of its 1994 animated classic, for both the spectacle of the African plains and crucial lessons on the power of familial bonds.

Speaking at the event’s opening ceremony, Mr. Liu Bin, General Manager of Chiwan Container Terminal Company Limited and Chiwan Wharf Development Company Limited, extended the company’s sincere gratitude to the large number of employees serving at its various terminals as well as their families for their sacrifices and support. "the C Blue Children’s Summer Camp has been a major project under our public welfare brand known as C Blue, which reflects CMPort’s longstanding commitment to the well-being of its employees,” Liu said. "This year’s event has made all our domestic subsidiaries eligible for participation, another giant step along the project’s evolutionary trajectory."

A sixth edition of the program is expected to return next summer, with its corporate organizer looking to establish itself as a powerful voice in public welfare.
